This term refers to modern media. It is a form of communication which has been transformed by the creative use of technology. New Media is a combination of technology, communication and design to develop ways in which we can get our message across. In a nut shell - New Media is anything that is "cutting edge". This can include everything that deals with technology from phones to computer games.
Although the technologies for new media have been in existence for decades, it is only in recent years that these technologies have become accessible enough for people who aren't experts to be able to use.
Many, many companies and organisations describe themselves as 'new media'. This all-encompassing use of the term, 'new media' can refer to any type of media that is used for public relations or marketing. The thing is that that may only mean that it is more electronically sophisticated than an animated flashing neon sign. Because this rather broad use of the term has a somewhat vague definition, it has come to be considered rather a 'buzzword' in the industry.
Such marketing organisations understand 'new media' as another term for digital media.
